HE’S been Han Solo, Indiana Jones, Jack Ryan and most recently Red Hulk, but now Harrison Ford is donning a kilt and taking the tartan in new series Once Upon A Time In Scotland.
But don’t rush out to the cinema, or take out a streaming subscription to see the Hollywood A-lister in his new role – because it’s actually a spirited series of ads for Glenmorangie Whisky.
Ford, now 82, sends himself up in the campaign, saying he’s not signing up for any action stuff, and absolutely won’t be enticed into wearing a kilt. Cue, of course, kilt, sporran and bagpipes.

Throughout the six episodes released yesterday, with more to follow each week, the script punctures pretension often found both in whisky and showbiz culture, but retains a good Highlands heart.

Filmed in and around the famous distillery in Tain, Ross-shire and directed by actor and filmmaker Joel Edgerton, it’s thought that the films will be a tourism boost not just to Glenmorangie but the area as a whole.

Locations range from high up in the mountains, to which Ford was whisked by helicopter, to Loch Glass and the surrounding countryside, and include several scenes filmed at the 19th century Ardross Castle – home of the Traitors TV show.

Joining Ford in the film series are the real-life members of staff at the distillery and, of course, the actor is often seen sipping a dram of the iconic Scottish spirit while sitting in front of a roaring fire.

“I loved working with the team at the distillery – they were all great,” he says. “The whole process of filming was full of unanticipated joys: little unexpected moments.

“It’s a tribute to Glenmorangie’s sensibilities that they let us be less than totally serious. I think what Joel has produced has a certain charm to it, because it’s unpretentious and just amusing.”
