LOVE this evocative shot which has just been named Photo of the Year by HX, the expeditions cruise arm of Scandinavian cruise and ferry line Hurtigruten.
More than 2,700 photos were submitted by HX Explorers in the annual photography competition in association with CEWE, and Björn Hossfeld came out top.
The German traveller’s image, titled alt v neu, captures a shipwreck at Skansbukta, with a modern day Hurtigruten cruise liner in the background, off the island of Spitzbergen.
Judges said: “This is a beautiful image of the past and the future. The texture of the timber on the abandoned boat – and the patching – tells the story of a life well lived.
“The footprints hint a passenger leaving the boat and continuing their journey and draws the eye to the nexus between new and old. The framing is really engaging, and the textures of the different elements – ship, snow and sky – are beautiful.”
