NOW that’s what I call an ice picture. I’m loving this image, captured by photographer Oscar Farrera, of a Hurtigruten Expeditions ship in the frozen Antarctic.
Taken in the Weddell Sea, it’s published today as the expedition cruise line, now branded HX, reveals new itineraries for the 2026-27 season, including a spectacular sail along ‘The Explorer’s Route’.
The cruise offers travellers what is being dubbed an “unparalleled opportunity” to walk in the footsteps of the great explorers who originally traversed the Seventh Continent.
Over nine days, guests will visit the South Shetland Islands, Antarctic Sound, Weddell Sea, Gerlache Strait, and Penola Strait, beginning and ending in Buenos Aires.
HX says that it will include exclusive exploration of secluded areas beyond the usual routes, allowing travellers to immerse themselves in mindful learning, embracing science and nature.

Other new itineraries include sailings to Alaska, Greenland, Norway, and the Galapagos, marking the 130th anniversary of the company’s first route to Svalbard back in 1896.
Among other highlights is a Solar Eclipse Expedition visiting Svalbard, Greenland, and Iceland to take in the eclipse over East Greenland on August 12, 2026. For routes see the HX website.
