AWARD winning Twycross Zoo tomorrow launches an Animal Bricktacular event to woo families over the school summer holidays, with 40 life-sized brick sculptures dotted throughout the Leicestershire park.
The models, made from more than two million building bricks, will rub shoulders with the hundreds of real-life animals who live on the 100-acre site, including giraffes, penguins, tigers, birds and four species of great ape.

The Animal Bricktacular trail will be included in the standard admission price, runs from Saturday July 13 to Sunday September 1, and will also feature a Brick Builder Zone to cater for visitors’ own DIY model-making skills.

There’ll be designated selfie spots aplenty, prizes to be won, and a special certificate to take home for those who complete the trail.
The new family attraction follows hot on the heels of new wildlife arrivals at the conservation charity zoo, the latest of which have been two red-fronted macaws — one of the most endangered species of parrot in the world.

Native to Bolivia, the birds are currently listed as “Critically Endangered” on the International Union for Conservation of Nature Red List as its global population is continuing to decline, leaving fewer than 300 in the wild.

Their arrival followed the recent birth of a second new-born François’ langur, bringing the zoo’s troop up to nine. The species is also endangered, with only 2,500 estimated to remain in the wild worldwide.

When booking, visitors to Twycross Zoo can now benefit from an annual ticket, enabling them to pay for a day and enjoy unlimited visits free for 12 months. For admission prices and booking see the official zoo site.
