ALL the King’s horses and all the King’s men could … reveal behind the scenes secrets on a special tour of the Royal stables led by one of the world’s top trainers.
Discover Newmarket has been given exclusive access to take a group of visitors, escorted by the Royal Trainer William Haggas, on a tour of Sommerville Lodge Yard this May.
It’s here that King Charles III and Queen Camilla have horses in training, and Haggas is one of the most respected trainers in the headquarters of British racing at Newmarket.

The Thursday May 2 tour will include the chance to meet serial winning stallion Stradivarius, and the opportunity to watch future equine stars as they are put through their paces.
So what can you expect on a right Royal day out?

The day begins at 8am with a driving tour, including sights such as the hallowed training grounds before arrival at Sommerville Lodge where visitors will meet William Haggas.

After a personal tour led by the six-time Classic-winning trainer, the group will head to the Gallops to watch the horses exercise before a break for brunch at the Bedford Lodge Hotel.

Next up will be a guided tour of the National Stud, including a Stallion Parade, and the chance to see the multiple group 1 winning stallion Stradivarius.

The home stretch then visits the five-acre National Horseracing Museum, to learn about the history of the town and the way in which Royalty has played its part in horseracing over the centuries.

The day concludes with a cream tea at the Tack Room, the Museum’s on-site café.
Tickets for the Royal Yard tour are priced £165 per person, and can be booked via a special Discover Newmarket link – but get in early because it’s a racing certainty that it will sell rapidly.
