THEY say a picture is worth a thousand words – so this is a suitably short post about a new initiative that gives the phrase ‘house painter’ a whole new meaning.
If, like me, you’ve loved watching Landscape Artist of the Year on TV, then here’s your opportunity to test your artistic skills in a beautiful setting for (almost) free.

Belton House, near Grantham in Lincolnshire and looked after by the National Trust, is hosting a handful of art openings this month and next for everyone from youngsters to pensioners.
“From the youngest toddlers to the most mature seniors, and those with little painting experience to amateur and professional artists, come and paint the gardens at Belton!” says the Trust.

“Collect your art materials from the garden entrance and head out into the gardens to draw or paint your favourite spots. Take home personal memories of Belton in all seasons!”
Even better news is that all materials and paper are free, aside from the best quality paper which will cost 50p per sheet. There’s a voluntary donation to help replace items.

The next Saturday sessions, each from 10am to 3.30pm, are on November 11, November 25 and December 9. Although the art experiences are free, normal house admission charges apply.
To see what’s what, and check availability, brush up on the Belton House website. For more on this, and a range of other attractions in the area, head to Visit Lincolnshire.
