SACRÉ bleu! An airport is being renamed to honour Queen Elizabeth II – and it’s not where you might expect it to be. It’s across the English Channel in France.
After receiving the right royal approval of King Charles III, Le Touquet-Paris-Plage International Airport will soon be known as Elizabeth II Le Touquet-Paris-Plage International Airport.
Civic leaders in Le Touquet proposed the name change to Buckingham Palace shortly after the Queen’s death, saying it’s recognition of the town as “the most British of French resorts”.

The French seaside resort also has strong links with the Royal Family. The Queen’s uncle, Edward VIII, often holidayed there, sometimes with the young Elizabeth.
Edward would arrive by plane, before going horse riding and sand yachting. In the 1950s, as holidaying Brits followed his example, the airport was the third busiest in France.
“This is a tribute to a great Queen and her uncle who had a fondness for France, as well as a recognition of the most British of French resorts,” officials said.

Le Touquet is about an hour’s drive south of Calais, and will host the England rugby team’s training camp ahead of the Rugby World Cup, which begins next month.
