ROCK supergroup U2 are to play their first live gigs since 2019 at a startling new Las Vegas venue – a giant sphere that will, quite literally, be out of this world.
The band will play four nights at the MSG Sphere, which looks like its name suggests and boasts $2.3 billion LED technology that owners say will offer VR experiences without goggles.
On July 4, a series of video demonstrations at the 17,600-seat venue, including the lunar surface, fireworks, and the American flag, shone against the Nevada night sky.
The venue will offer music, film and sports, and has already attracted shows by U2 and movie director Darren Aronofsky, whose Postcard From Earth will be a 4D spectacular.

Bono will be bringing U2 to the Vegas from September 29 to October 7, playing a special run of shows under the banner U2:UV Achtung Baby Live at Sphere.
Fans are promised “an out-of-this-world live music experience which will see the world’s biggest rock band launch the world’s most cutting edge venue”.

Bono says: “U2 hasn’t played live since December 2019 and we need to get back on stage and see the faces of our fans again. And what a unique stage they’re building for us out there in the desert!
“We’re the right band, Achtung Baby the right album, and Sphere the right venue to take the live experience of music to the next level. Sphere is more than just a venue, it’s a gallery and U2’s music is going to be all over the walls.”

Created especially for the Sphere, Aronofsky’s Postcard From Earth runs from October 6, and will be beamed onto the walls, with additional sensory elements like wind and scent to make it a fully immersive experience.
