World’s biggest Disney exhibition to open in London this year

CAPTAIN America, Luke Skywalker, Olaf the snowman, Mary Poppins, Snow White and all her seven dwarves rubbing shoulders by the Thames? Sounds like Marvel’s multiverse has spilled over into all things Disney.

But that’ll be the fan fantasy come true when Disney100: The Exhibition – the biggest ever to date – comes to London in the Autumn, boasting more than 250 costumes, props and artwork spanning a century of imagination.

The official exhibition, which has already been hosted by Philadelphia and Munich, doesn’t open at the ExCel centre until October 13, but tickets are going on sale from Tuesday July 18, and there’s already a waitlist online for first dibs.

Alongside classics such as Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs and Cinderella, there’ll be any number of Princesses, characters from the worlds of Pixar, Star Wars, and Marvel – and some fascinating links between movies spanning decades.

There’ll be original artwork from 1961’s One Hundred and One Dalmatians alongside the red dress worn by Emma Stone in the 2021 version. And artwork from the 1950 Cinderella will accompany the crystal glass slipper from the 2015 live remake.

Hosted by The Walt Disney Archives and Semmel Exhibitions, we’re promised a 20,000 square-foot vault of rare historical items dating from the 1930s to the present to help mark the 100-year anniversary of Walt Disney on October 16.

There’ll be ten themed galleries housing an array of props, original costumes, moving stories, and more from Mickey Mouse’s Steamboat Willie debut all the way through to the latest Marvel movies featuring the likes of Captain Marvel and Ant-Man.

Other attractions include masks worn by The Avengers and Guardians of the Galaxy, Star Wars robot BB-8, the carousel horse which Dick Van Dyke’s lovable Bert rode in 1964 classic Mary Poppins, and costumes worn in some of the biggest movies.

There’ll be an extra special day on October 16 – the day of the actual anniversary – with extended opening hours and surprises, photo opportunities, a unique branded laminate and lanyard, an exclusive D100 Disney pin and flexible entry.

Becky Cline, director of the Walt Disney Archives, says: “We can’t wait for guests in the UK to experience their favourite Disney stories, characters, and attractions in new and immersive ways as we celebrate all the wonderful worlds of Disney.”

Disney100: The Exhibition opens at ExCel on October 13 for an extended run. Tickets will be from £16.50, although children aged under five will get in free. The venue is wheelchair-friendly. For opening hours, or to join the waitlist see here.
