THINKING of visiting England? You’re welcome! That’s the headline message for English Tourism Week 2022, which starts this Friday and runs through until March 27.
The annual showcase for the nation’s attractions comes as the world starts to open up again after the Covid-19 pandemic, and it is seen as one of the most important yet as visitors return.
Promoted with an excellent set of images featuring everything from the Tower of London Beefeaters to a steam engine driver, organisers want to showcase the diverse and vibrant tourism sector, and the vast contribution it makes to our economy.
Led by VisitEngland, this year’s campaign theme is ‘You’re Welcome’ – sending the message that everyone working in tourism is ready and willing to welcome visitors back and all are working hard to do so.
We’re being encouraged to show our support for English tourism by using hashtag#EnglishTourismWeek22 whenever we get social.
And on #throwbackthursdays, organisers say: “Feel free to share photos and memories of your favourite holidays in England to celebrate the times and places we love.”
The Prince of Wales, patron of English Tourism Week, says: “I believe that we are incredibly lucky to be blessed with such a rich assortment of historic and cultural gems in this country.
“That is not to mention the jewel of our national parks and, above all, some of the wonders of our many hidden gardens which are once again ready to amaze and delight visitors.”
Making up 80% of the UK’s visitor economy, English tourism in 2019 generated over £100 billion a year, supported 2.6 million jobs and is a major employer of school leavers and young people, as well as an incubator for entrepreneurs and innovation.
